Several partners, affiliates and insureds contact us to obtain clarification on the payment of contributions.

A few clarifications on this subject:

The 2nd pillar contributions are priority debts. As such, their payment is particularly important, especially since they are amounts allocated to employee benefits.

Contribution invoices will be issued by the Pension Fund according to the periodicity chosen by the affiliated company, this is a legal obligation.

The contributions collected from employees by the company must be paid to the Pension Fund without delay.

We recommend that companies pay instalments on a monthly frequency, in order to spread the payments out gradually and thus avoid possible payment difficulties.

In the case of arrears of employer contributions, the Pension Fund is legally obliged to initiate a summons procedure.

However, from 19 March to 4 April 2020 inclusive, the Federal Council has just decided that proceedings will be suspended throughout Switzerland. The Federal Council took this decision at its meeting on 18 March 2020. This measure is intended to ease the situation for Swiss companies.

If the company encounters problems with the payment of contributions, we can agree on a payment plan that takes into account the financial situation and that will defer the summons procedure.

We encourage companies to contact Patrimonia as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience.

Financial markets

The financial markets are currently experiencing sharp declines, the extent and duration of which cannot be predicted.

Patrimonia’s prudent and diversified asset allocation is designed to ensure that the fund can weather such crises without harming its long-term financial equilibrium. The management strategy remains unchanged, in particular with regard to rebalancing between asset classes and currency hedging.

The Board of Trustees is in constant contact with its advisors and the fund managers. It closely monitors developments on the financial markets and attaches the utmost importance to security and diversification of investments.

With its conservative investment strategy, Patrimonia is less affected by the crisis than other pension funds. It is difficult to draw an interim balance sheet given the hourly changes in the situation, but the scores over the past few days show a yield differential between the Foundation’s portfolio and the market of around 2% in favour of Patrimonia. The Board of Trustees continues to favour a long-term view specific to occupational pension plans.

The Board of Trustees and the employees of Patrimonia thank you for your trust and wish you, your family and friends all the best for your health and serenity.
